To know God and to make Him known

Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions parents ask most.

What if there is no community near me?

Forming a community takes very little. If you can meet up with one friend and do schooling together for a few hours each week, you can form a community. Two or more families meeting together is enough to begin. Contact us and we'll walk you through the startup process and provide ongoing support.

What about exams and university?

Classical Conversations students can earn an American Diploma recognised internationally โ€” and recognised by South African universities since 2021. Completing the Challenge program satisfies diploma requirements without additional exams.

The Challenge program provides 29.5 credits, exceeding the minimum 22 credits (24 for university-bound students) needed. Globally, our graduates have achieved higher mean exam scores in every subject tested than the national average.

Is my child too old to start? Will they get left behind?

No. We have materials and programs for toddlers through to graduation. Whatever your child's current age and ability, there is an appropriate entry point. Get in touch and we'll help you discern where to begin.

I can't do maths/Latin/etc. How am I supposed to teach it?

You don't have to be the expert โ€” you only have to be the lead learner. We firmly believe parents are the best teachers their children can have, even in subjects they themselves never mastered. Our curriculum, tutors, and community structure equip you to learn alongside your child. Many parents say teaching what they "couldn't do" was the most rewarding part of their journey.

What if we don't want to learn Latin?

Latin is one of the most powerful tools available for cognitive development. Studying Latin sharpens grammar instincts, builds vocabulary across English (over 60% of English vocabulary is Latin-derived), develops logical thinking, and opens doors into law, medicine, theology, and the great works of Western civilisation. Most families who hesitate at first end up grateful they persevered.

What about socialisation?

Once we leave school, every environment in life calls us to mix with all ages. Classical Conversations communities are mixed-age by design. Students regularly present their work, take part in group discussions, and develop authentic relationships across generations. We don't merely aim to socialise children โ€” we aim to help them become civilised.

What does it cost?

Costs vary by program and community. Generally, fees cover community day tutoring, materials, and director compensation. Please reach out to your local community Director or contact us for current fee schedules.

Do I have to be a Christian to join?

Classical Conversations is unapologetically Christ-centred โ€” our materials, prayers, and worldview reflect that. Families from many backgrounds are welcome to participate, but should know what to expect: a curriculum and community shaped by Scripture and the historic Christian faith.
